British Telecom Are Incompetent Liars...

After working at our line yesterday the 'engineer' downed tools and bogged off on the dot of 5pm. Could we make calls? Yes Could we receive them? No. Pearlie is getting all our phone calls. That's OK during the day when she comes to the door and scrakes at the top of her feeble old-woman lungs, "Berteeeeee!" but at night when the soaps are turned up megavolume she hears nuttin'.

Phoned BT this morning and they said the 'engineer' would call between 1pm and 6pm. They lied.

But at least I can now blog from the comfort of the utility room which is the only room at present with a telephone connection.

I would be happy if my phone was gone? I would kill if my conection to the net went away.

Yesterday- I went for a long hike. I kept thinking about all the cool walks you have been going on. I think reading your blog has challenged me to take more walks.

I'm glad you're taking walks. One of the most wonderful free things that you can do.

Telephone connection is back on but there are still some glitches.

And judging by the ones that visited us their 'engineer's' people-skills are also a tad lacking

In defence of (some of) the engineers, some of them are absolute wizards. Depends which of them you get. Sure, last time I had the pleasure to seeing them work, three out of the four were grunts while the fourth did all the work, but hey.

You know I've been thinking all week that is the way of the world. It seems that in any staff team 25% do all the work and the rest do all the whingeing. And if my work colleagues stop speaking to me this week I'll know they read my blog.

Pretty much with BT you don't let them leave til they have done the work properly because the next time you'll get one that will undo all the work done by the previous engineer and redo it!!!!

Yup... the whole thing needs to be the work of one engineer. Because if more than one starts, things will be ripped out, moved around, and nothing will be properly documented.

Which is bad when it's a residential install. When it's a business, it's worse.

But the system works, because, as aforementioned, one of the engineers was a wizard. He just didn't document some of the stuff the other engineers were doing. Which wasn't nice.

Next time I have a phone connection problem I'm getting Ed in to fix it and Adam to make sure Ed doesn't leave until it's FIXED.
