I Was Wrong

Earlier today I left a most, unladylike comment on Hannah's recent post. I was totally wrong. That picture wasn't Bogie. It was Bert's dad. That was the picture on his first driving licence.

Willy John is on the left.

D'ye know how I knew it was Johnny? He's got the trademark Orr humph, and a wee bit of a gormless look.

It is quite striking the resemblance.
....and your comment was very unladylike which is probably why 'unfem' has come up as the word verification!

Dead ringer, for sure.

Like Hannah said all men in those days aspired to look like movie stars. Matty says my Da looked like someone, cannot remember who, but not as famous as Bogart for sure.

Bert thinks he bears a resemblance to Liam Neeson but I can't see it myself. And his mate Clint thinks he looks like... well you can guess, can't you? Personally I think Clint looks more like Harold Lloyd.

He does look a quite a bit like Bogie, don't he. I've seen pictures of my Dad taken during the Second World War and he did have a certain generic movie star look to him. But he was a much sharper dresser then.

People dressed in a more grown-up way in our parent's generation (50 something's parents, younguns).

Nowadays most people seem to dress for comfort and prefer to look like kids rather than grown-ups.

As I write this I'm wearing a babygro, a matinee jacket and a bib.
