New Year's Day

It seems churlish not to post on the first day of a New Year even if I have nothing much to write about other than Covid19 and the intermittent internet coverage provided by a BT mini hub. My review? The mini hub is not all it's cracked up to be.

Coronavirus update - three more guests from our Boxing Day soiree have tested positive. One thing I never expected to be doing last year was hosting a superspreader event but *shrugs* hey-ho.

Sense of proportion time. Here in Springhill, our woes are very small compared to some and I intend to begin the New Year feeling gratitude for the love and companionship of friends and family.

Wishing a Happy New Year to all who visit Nelly's Garden.

New Years Day

It seems remiss not to mark the first day of the year with a blog post so here we go.

How do I feel right now?

Tired and a bit overfed. We had a huge roast dinner last night which Jazzer and I cooked. She did the soup, the beef, and the roast potatoes. I did three vegetable dishes, Yorkshire puddings and a summer fruit crumble. A joint effort. Then there was too much alcohol and some terrible TV. Jools Holland's show wasn't too bad but it feels a bit of a cheat knowing that everyone there was pretending it was the last day of the year. I mean, we weren't actually sharing the festivities with Beth Ditto, George McCrae and Adrian Dunbar. And, by the way, does anyone else think that Ed Sheeran is a bit bland?

What's been going on?

Leitrim Sister was up for a couple of days. As always, I enjoyed her company. It was horribly cold while she was here but we didn't let it keep us back.

What's happening tomorrow?

Going to Ikea with Zoe and the girls. I'll be buying James some new bits for his train set.

What am I going to do next?

Going to phone James' house to find out what he needs then I'm for having a G&T and maybe a bit of Netflix. Godless is good.

Best Bits

Another day, another dinner. Seven round the table, Jazzer and I in charge of the catering. Banjo Man, Jazzer's hubby says we bounce off each other, Jazzer says she defers to me as the head cook, I say I defer to her, either way, we seem to work well together. We had roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roasties, cauliflower cheese, parrots and carsnips, Brussels sprouts, gravy and steamed jam pudding for afters. There are three/four musicians tonight but they are all too tired (or stuffed) to play.

So, Happy New Year to everyone. 2016 had its moments but it was generally a bit too divisive, too alt-right, too Trumpy-pumpy for my liking. Glad to see this new year come in.

Two pictures that summed up the wonderfulness of my past year, a couple of 2016's best bits.
