Quilts and Nasturtiums

Gardened for an hour or so, lazed about, ate leftover curried lamb, visited friends, phoned people. That was my Easter Saturday.

I've still got the stinking cold but I believe it is on its way out. Hurrah!

Starting to get into  House of Cards, interest piqued around episode 6. Now on episode 10.

And now to Flickr on this, the fourth day of April.

This is a very small section of an appliqued quilt that I bought on eBay many years ago. I thought of using it as a wall hanging but it is so big that I have not a single interior wall that could cope with it. The figures are characters from the Old Testament but they haven't been identified. Perhaps I should hang it outside, photograph it and let the Internet tell me. Internet seems to like it a little as it has had 1665 views. I wonder why it is I get bored when there are exciting things to be doing like hanging a giant quilt on a barn door for photographs?

This gorgeous illustration of tropaeolum majus is by the Czech artist Frantisek Severa. It is scanned from the dust jacket of a little pocket book on herbs. I only bought it because of the pictures. Flickr considers it my 4th most interesting picture with 632 views. In this instance I agree with Flickr for it is a very interesting picture and not in the least sentimental.

Spring Forward

The clocks go forward tonight and, apart from taking note of that momentous fact, I have very little to write about. Except....

We introduced the new hens to the old hens. The rooster was beside himself to be presented with seven virgins. He literally did not know where to begin. So far they all appear to be getting on well, but knowing chickens there will be at least one in Coventry tomorrow.

The house is full of men playing banjos, guitars and clarinets. I fed them mince and onion pie and and steamed syrup pudding and now I'm ignoring them.

I'm slowing plodding through House of Cards Season 3. What is Doug up to? Will Freddy get his revenge?

I have fallen in love with Flickr once more and to celebrate that and March 28 here are some pictures.

Number 28 in the most viewed category. 631 views so far. Using 'wellies' as a tag increases hits.

Number 28 in the Interestingness category. Evie meets Mrs Tiggywinkle in the Ulster Museum. Now must go show my face in the music room. House of Cards isn't really grabbing me this season.

Insider Knowledge

I have just finished watching the first two series of House of Cards. Essentially, as far as politics go, it was complete toodle but, as a drama, it was  tremendously enjoyable. The acting, particularly the two leads Spacey and Wright, was tremendously good. Kevin Spacey has created a marvellous, Machiavellian villain.

So that's me a-waitin' on my next fix of House of Cards and Game of Thrones. And speaking of Game of Thrones, Season 5 has been shooting recently here in Northern Ireland. I'm not enough of a geek to know if location shooting is still going on but I am enough of a geek to have enjoyed a recent conversation with one of the extras. He wasn't able to tell me about what was going to happen, said that if he did he'd be contractually obliged to kill me but he did tell me about some of the previous season's shoots. For instance, y'know that highly erotic scene back in Season 1 where Daenerys Targaryen first got it properly together with Khal Drogo? They were actually supposed to be glamping in a luxury yurt befitting a warlord. Where the romantic pair actually were was in a cowshed somewhere in Buckna.

I was unable to pick my informant out in his scenes in the actual show. He said he was the one with the big black bushy beard. Not helpful. Not helpful at all.
