I'm listening to a Radio 4 discussion on lotteries. Some one has just trotted out the one about the National Lottery being a tax on the poor. Mm. Maybe. But at least it's an optional tax.

Yes, it's an optional tax where you have a 1:57 chance of winning something. Unlike, ya know, all those other forms of tax, which'll be taken wether you want them taken or not, and which you'd be lucky to have a 1:1000 change of seeing any of it again...
